Description

Offered for bidding is a beautiful bone china SALAD or LUNCHEON PLATE made in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England.  It was made by Tuscan China, a partnership of Richard Hammersley Plant and his brother Simon Lucas Plant.  Tuscan China was made from 1914 to 1966, after which it was acquired by Wedgwood.  Wedgwood continued to produce bone china in the Tuscan Works factory until 2006.
The plate is made of fine English bone china, or possibly porcelain, with a fancy square shape. The background is eggshell white with a clear glaze, and the center features an image of a colorful songbird perched on a flowering tree branch. The center design is primarily done in bright metallic gold, with colorful raised enamel details. A wide blue border with more ornate gold decoration completes the pattern. Picture 4 shows the light reflected by the gold, and picture 5 shows the back mark.  This mark dates to 1936.
This plate measures 8 1/2 inches (21.6) side to side across the center, and just over 10 inches (25.4cm) diagonally, corner to corner.
It is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, or repairs. There is no crazing of the glaze, and no discoloration. The gold decoration shows no signs of wear.  It looks like it was never used!
